According to the American Hardware Manufacturers Association, the AHMA Home Improvement Industry Confidence Index remained at 45.8 in October, while the Future Expectations Index rose to an all-time high of 201.7.
So what does this mean for the commercial door hardware and the greater home improvement industry? 11 percent of respondents of the survey stated that sales were higher this October than last October. 15 percent stated that sales were even and 75 percent said that sales were below levels from a year ago.
But the good news is that 69 percent respondents state that they expect sales for commercial door hardware and home improvement projects will be higher a year from now. 27 percent said that sales for commercial door locks and home improvement projects will remain at their current levels.
The survey also explored two much-discussed topics in the commercial door hardware industry and the home improvement industry.
One is the fact that the $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit will expire at the end of November. Many commercial door hardware and home improvement interest groups are urging Congress to extend and possibly expand the credit. 45 percent of respondents said they were “In favor,” 35 percent said they were “Opposed,” while 20 percent said they were “Not sure.”
The second topic relevant to the commercial door hardware and home improvement industry regarded President Obama named Ron Bloom as his senior counselor for manufacturing policy. 7 percent of respondents claimed they were “In favor,” 31 percent responded that they were “Opposed” and 61 percent responded that they were “Not sure.”
